Wilderness sport climbing! At least that's what it feels like.
Adamsfield is a collection of conglomerate boulders sitting on top of a small range thatoverlooks pristine lakes and forests. The climbs vary from gently overhung faces to steep roofs and are from 5 to 15m long.
Adamsfield is a relatively new addition to the Tasmanian climbing scene, the first routes were established in 1994. All routes are sport routes and most of them are graded 20 to 29.
ROCK: Conglomerate
LOCATION: Adamsfield is about 2hrs drive west of Hobart. From Hobart drive to Maydena. Enter the National Park. Some 35 km from Maydena is the Scotts Peak Dam turn-off. Ignore this and continue for 5km to the Clear Hill Road turn-off marked by an unlocked gate. Drive along this winding gravel road for about 15km to a large boulder which overhangs the road. Park 50m past this boulder. The crag is a 10 minute walk up the hill.
BEST TIME TO VISIT: Due to the damp conditions at Adamsfield it is recommended asa summer crag although there can be good days from September to May.
